”How To Be A Heartbreaker” was the last song I wrote for Electra Heart, and it’s the most important because its clinches the whole vision. The whole concept, and the whole, I would say, tone of the record, which is very clearly about love but not in the way that we have known it usually in pop music. It’s kind of a revenge record, in a way. Everyone wants to be the heartbreaker, not the heartbroken. Everybody in the world. Because being heartbroken is kind of, you know, one of the worst experiences you can have, if it truly happens to you. So the whole record was based upon that feeling. And upon, almost switching roles, at least in you head, so that you kind of, don’t become the weak one or the one who is vunerable in the relationship. I think that’s my greatest fear and I know from seeing how fans react to the record, that that’s a universal fear, you know, a fear of love and getting involved with people, ‘because you don’t wanna get hurt. So I kind of translated that to a song, and made up four rules that you know, you follow in order not to get your heart broken.
